On Collecting

The inaugural open archives exhibition, Sedimental Edition 01, highlights works collected for the library over the course of several decades. The curatorial concept for this first edition was to juxtapose art objects with select texts in order to explore passages, thematic overlays, and threads of connection between works.

The term ‘sedimental’ is a play on notions of ‘sentimentality’ but with more grounding overtones. It is also a follow on to research and photography documentation related to ‘terrain’.

There are several individuals and sources who have inspired me in terms of how to think about collecting (art, natural forms and otherwise), regardless of the funds or space available.

More to come on collecting and ‘archiving as art’ as a studio practice.
